Divorce

Today is the Quadrille challenge from dVerse: write a poem of exactly 44 words (not including the title,) which incorporates the word “change” in some way.

Her first wedding was a grand affair,
thirteen tables full,
eighteen months of planning,
fifty-six buttons
down the back of her dress.

The divorce was eight questions,
and a certified copy stamped.

She hasn’t told her brother,
yet,
about the second wedding.

Priorities change.

  1. Oh, Nora. This is wonderful. The use of numbers, the staccato voice of it. That last line. So, so true. And good for her. My second wedding has lasted more than 20 years. 😉

    1. Thank you, De. There is so much in partnerships that aren’t seen from the outside, and there’s the mystery of marriage, I think.
