Gina asks us to write a pantoum for the March D’verse poetry form.
Pantoums are interlocking quatrains where the line scheme runs ABCD BEDF EGFH GIHJ, etc., until the last stanza where, well, Gina explains it much better than I can.
New Year’s Pantoum
crumpled panties on the floor
dropped by the party guest who laughs and
dances and giggles from champagne cocktails
on New Year’s Eve with glitter eyes and tousled hair
dropped by the party guest who laughs and
bubbles fly when the cork pops
on New Year’s Eve with glitter eyes and tousled hair
kisses in the corner, cocktail-sweet sweat on party dresses
bubbles fly when the cork pops
rushing the moment, fingers catch on skin
kisses in the corner, cocktail-sweet sweat on party dresses
too much is never enough
rushing the moment, fingers catch on skin
dances and giggles from champagne cocktails
too much is never enough
crumpled panties on the floor
nice! you wrote the pantoum with finesse and taking me back to a memory, a funny and silly one, but no regrets. i really like this Nora.

Pantiless women, sweaty dresses, kisses in the corner – nice party!

My original idea for the poem was an upset hostess who slept alone after her New Year’s party then found evidence of some guests not sleeping alone…..things changed when I mixed in the form!

Yes a bit too much bubbly! Dizzy like her New Year’s dance. (K)
