The Last Frost

pantoum # 2 for the D’verse challenge

sweet herbs to welcome the traveler home
wreaths and ribbons string the bower
a fire banked for the long cold night
snow blankets hill and hollow

wreaths and ribbons string the bower
celebrating anticipated growth
snow blankets hill and hollow
a rush at the window to light the way

celebrating anticipated growth
candled eggs hang in suspension
a rush at the window to light the day
frost threaded against the glass

candled eggs hang in suspension
croci push and gather from their sleep
frost threaded against the glass
a thrush sings the worms from slumber

croci push and gather from their sleep
eggs crack and pip and wobble
a thrush sings the worms from slumber
life wakes and stirs anew

eggs crack and pip and wobble
a fire banked for the long cold night
life wakes and stirs anew
sweet herbs to welcome the traveler home

  1. Very evocative as everything gets ready to come out of its wintry slumber. I like the idea of the thrush singing the worms out of their slumber..ready to be eaten! But needs must! Great use of the Pantoum.
