Cheesemaking

this magic of milk and acid and heat
a comfort of alchemy when hope seems away
here it’s ricotta, I’ll stir and I’ll steep
this magic of milk and acid and heat
half a world over, a stranger arising from sleep
weights their paneer and approaches the day
this ritual of milk and acid and heat
a comfort of alchemy when hope seems away

Na/GloPoWriMo Day Twelve’s challenge is a triolet.

Triolets are 8-line poems with a strict form and rhyme scheme that looks like this:

ABaAabAB
Line 1 rhyme scheme A
Line 2 rhyme scheme B
Line 3 rhymes with A
Line 4 repeats line 1
Line 5 rhymes with A
Line 6 rhymes with B
Line 7 repeats line 1
Line 8 repeats line 2

Line 1 appears three times in the poem, line 2 appears twice. The A rhyme is used five times.

  1. Agree, delicious! Love how the repetitive triolet form matches the soothing ritual you describe. I get a feeling of being in the zone from reading this. Repetitive tasks can be so powerful, creatively and mood-wise. You invite the reader into that power.
