When Lightning Strikes

Catching up to Na/GloPoWriMo’s Day Seventeen (obsolete technology):

When Lightning Strikes

claw-footed
love of a deep
soaking tub

marries the wain-scotted
son of a painted
Queen Anne

alas for this pair,
there’s a change in the air,
and knob and tube in the walls

grounding is a clever trick:
invoke Ohm’s Law, and all
fall down, lickety-split

modern wires carry a ground,
but knob and tube, with nary a care
crawls through the walls ungrounded and bare

it will all be fine, we’re sure –
no hype – as long as we can wrap around
a copper plumbing pipe

and thus I was warned
with lectures most stern:

never take a bath in a thunder storm
